The Rolex Submariner 16610 is one of the most iconic and beloved models in the history of luxury dive watches. Produced between 1989 and 2010, it represents the perfect bridge between vintage charm and modern reliability. As part of Rolex’s legendary Submariner line, the 16610 combines robust tool-watch functionality with timeless design, making it a cornerstone piece in the collections of enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Crafted from 904L stainless steel, the 16610 features a 40mm case with classic proportions and strong wrist presence. It is fitted with a black aluminum unidirectional bezel insert, giving it a utilitarian look that contrasts beautifully with the glossy black dial. Unlike later Submariner models with ceramic bezels, the aluminum insert on the 16610 has a warmer, vintage aesthetic that many collectors find more appealing.

The watch is powered by the Rolex Caliber 3135, an automatic, COSC-certified chronometer movement known for its outstanding durability and accuracy. This movement, used in many Rolex models for decades, features a 48-hour power reserve, quickset date function, and has proven to be one of the most dependable in-house calibers in modern horology.

The dial of the 16610 is clean and highly legible, with white gold surrounds on the hour markers and luminous material for low-light visibility. Over the years, various lume types were used, including tritium, Luminova, and Super-LumiNova, adding nuance and collectibility to specific production years. A Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock magnifies the date window, enhancing practicality while maintaining the Submariner’s iconic look.

The watch is water-resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet) and comes on the robust and comfortable Oyster bracelet with a folding clasp and diver's extension, allowing it to be worn over a wetsuit.

Although the 16610 has been succeeded by newer ceramic models, it remains highly sought-after due to its perfect blend of vintage and modern features. It lacks the bulkier lugs and glossy ceramic bezels of current Submariners, giving it a more classic and balanced wrist profile.
