The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 16528 was introduced in 1988 as the full 18k yellow-gold version of Rolex's first self-winding Daytona generation. Early R-serial examples are particularly sought after by collectors, especially when fitted with the rare “4 Lines” diamond-set dial. Documented examples from this first series feature eight factory-set diamond hour markers, an inverted “6” in the 12-hour chronograph counter and the early tachymeter bezel calibrated to 200 units per hour. The watch is powered by the automatic Rolex Caliber 4030, extensively modified from the Zenith El Primero movement.
