The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 16518 is one of the most desirable references from the celebrated Zenith-era Daytona generation. Introduced in 1988, the model was among the first automatic Daytonas ever produced by Rolex and features the caliber 4030, a heavily modified version of the Zenith El Primero movement. Crafted in 18k yellow gold and paired with a leather strap, the 16518 offers a more refined and elegant interpretation of the Daytona compared to bracelet-equipped references. The 40 mm Oyster case is complemented by a fixed engraved tachymeter bezel and was offered with a variety of dial configurations, including champagne, white, black, mother-of-pearl, diamond-set, and rare exotic variants. Combining the historical importance of the Zenith movement era with precious metal construction, the 16518 occupies a significant place within modern Daytona collecting and remains one of the most appreciated strap-mounted Daytona references ever produced.
